Cartridge Seals

A cartridge seal, also known as a cassette seal, is a type of mechanical seal installed in a seal housing. It consists of a rotary seal face with a driving mechanism, a stationary seal face, a gland plate, and a sleeve. The rotary seal face is mounted on the shaft and rotates against a stationary seal face held in place by the gland plate. The gland plate also connects the seal assembly to the pump case.

This design offers the advantage of a compact structure, making it easier to install onto the machine body. Since all parts are pre-assembled, this ensures the correct operational height of the spring, facilitating the seal to operate under designed conditions. Cartridge seals have found wide applications in industries such as petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, machinery, and other fields. They are especially advantageous in special environments like high temperature, high pressure, high viscosity, and high corrosivity.

Operating Principles of Cartridge Mechanical Seals

Cartridge seals prevent fluid leakage along the shaft within pump casings or other vessels by maintaining a thin film of lubricating fluid between their rotary and stationary faces. This minimizes friction and wear and enhances their durability in diverse operating conditions. They excel in accommodating a broad spectrum of temperatures, pressures, and chemical environments, ensuring reliable performance across various industrial settings.

Implementations of Cartridge Mechanical Seals

Cartridge mechanical seals find extensive use across a diverse range of industries and applications, including:

  • Chemical Processing
  • Water and Wastewater treatment
  • Oil and Gas Industry
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Food and Beverage Production

These seals are chosen for their reliability and ease of maintenance. They provide robust sealing solutions that minimize downtime and operational costs. They are designed to withstand demanding environments, offering superior sealing efficiency and longevity. Their versatility makes them indispensable in applications where leak prevention and operational reliability are paramount concerns.
