Tapered roller bearings
Tapered roller bearings are separable, with inner and outer rings that have tapered raceways and rolling elements in the form of tapered rollers. These bearings are designed to manage both radial and axial loads, making them all-round for various applications. There are mainly two types based on the cone angle:
Why We Are The Right Choice?
Small Cone Angle
Primarily handles combined radial and axial loads, with a focus on radial loads. Often used in pairs, installed in opposite directions to manage the loads effectively. The inner and outer races can be installed separately, allowing for adjustable radial and axial gaps during installation and use.
Large Cone Angle
Primarily handles combined axial and radial loads, with a focus on axial loads. Not typically used for pure axial loads alone. When installed in opposite pairs, they can bear pure radial loads.
Structural Types
Tapered roller bearings are mainly supplied in 3 types based on the number of rows of rollers.
Single row tapered roller bearings consist of an outer ring and an inner ring assembly, which includes the inner ring and a set of tapered rollers enclosed by a cage.
The cone angle of the raceway of the outer ring ranges from 10° ~ 19°, allowing them to simultaneously accommodate axial and radial loads. The larger the cone angle, the greater the axial load capacity. Bearings with a large cone angle, indicated by the suffix “B,” have cone angles between 25° and 29°, making them capable of handling significant axial loads. Notably, the clearance of single row tapered roller bearings can be adjusted during installation.
The outer ring (or inner ring) of Double-row tapered roller bearings‘ is an integrated unit. While bearing radial loads, it can also handle bidirectional axial loads. The clearance is pre-set before the product leaves the factory, so it can be installed and used directly without adjusting the clearance. Within the axial clearance range of the bearing, double-row tapered roller bearings can limit the axial displacement of the bearing relative to the bearing housing in both directions.
Four-row tapered roller bearings basically have the same performance as double-row tapered roller bearings, but they can bear larger radial loads than the latter. However, they have a slightly lower speed limit compared to double row tapered roller bearings. They are mainly used in heavy machinery, including mining, metallurgical equipments, etc.
