Water Pump Seals

Mechanical pump seals are non-filled face seals that limit operating fluid leakage along a rotary pump shaft. They are mainly composed of a stationary ring, a rotating ring, elastic elements, driving parts, and auxiliary sealing rings.

During operation, the mechanical seal relies on a rotating ring fixed on the shaft and a stationary ring fixed on the pump casing. They use the elastic element’s force and the sealing fluid’s pressure to ensure close contact between the rotating and stationary ring surfaces, achieving effective sealing. The pressure shaft seal water in the mechanical seal device prevents high-pressure water from leaking. It pushes the rotating and stationary rings to maintain a lubricating film to prevent the ring surface from making contact. Because of the extremely thin liquid film and the impact of high-pressure water, leakage is nearly nonexistent.

Advantages of Mechanical Seals in Industrial Applications

  • Mechanical water pump seals offer a reliable structure that minimizes leakage to an imperceptible level, contingent upon sufficient surface roughness, flatness, and wear-resistant materials.
  • They provide a long service life, with minimal wear on the friction faces, allowing continuous operation for 1 to 2 years under normal conditions and even longer in special circumstances.
  • Unlike traditional soft packing assemblies, mechanical seals operate without needing adjustments during operation, maintaining contact through spring force and fluid pressure automatically.
  • Mechanical seals offer superior vibration resistance, maintaining maximum amplitude ≤0.05mm even at rotation speeds of 3000rpm with increasing PV values.
  • They feature low power loss due to their semi-fluid friction state, unlike packing seals that rely on compressing packing onto the shaft, resulting in higher friction and power consumption.
  • Additionally, mechanical seals do not cause wear on the bellows seal shaft or sleeve, remaining unaffected by shaft vibrations and axial housing deflections.

Versatile Scope of Mechanical Seals

Mechanical seals have a broad application scope, particularly in environments where the medium is flammable, explosive, toxic, or hazardous. They excel in sealing operations across various conditions, including high temperatures, low temperatures, high pressures, and vacuum settings. These seals are adept at handling corrosive media and are designed to maintain effective sealing integrity even at varying speeds. Their versatility makes them indispensable in industries where safety, reliability, and efficiency are paramount concerns.
